Pepper prices increased at most origins with the exception of price prevailed in India. After experiencing very high price increases to the level of much higher than price prevailed in other origins, Malabar black decreased marginally this week to INR 700 per kg from 716 per kg last week. Significant increases this week were recorded in Sri Lanka and Vietnam. This situation reflected stock at source is very tight.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY GERMANY:
In March 2014, Germany imported 2,042 mt of pepper (1,862 mt of whole and 180 mt of ground pepper) against 2,354 mt (2,146 mt of whole and 208 mt of ground pepper) in March 2013. During January - March 2014, Germany has imported 5,481 mt (4,983 mt of whole and 498 mt of ground pepper), recording a significant decrease of 34%, compared to imports of 8,350 mt (7,762 mt of whole and 588 mt of ground pepper) in the corresponding period of the last year. Major share of pepper imported to Germany was from Brazil, supplying around 45% during January - March 2014.
