Pepper market continued to be quiet in most of the producing countries, with the exception in Vietnam. Trading in this largest pepper producer and exporter was more active, supported by availability of new material from current harvest. Pepper price prevailing in Vietnam during the week was at VND 125,500 per kg for black and VND 171,000 per kg for white pepper. Local prices of black pepper in Kochi and Lampung decreased marginally by 1%; while for white pepper in Bangka and Sarawak have shown an increase. From Lampung, Indonesia it is reported there is no catch crop this year. It is estimated that the pepper harvest in this area would be delayed.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During February 2014, Brazil exported 3,106 mt of pepper valued at USD 23.23 million as against 2,294 mt valued at USD 14.33 million exported in February 2013. During January - February 2014, total export of pepper from Brazil was 6,598 mt worth USD 49.36 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was a significant increase of 40% in quantity and 68% in value. During the first two month the United States and Germany continued to be the most important destinations absorbing about 43% and 28% of the pepper shipped from Brazil respectively.
