The market showed a mixed response during the week. In India trading activity was more active and price increased by 4%. In Vietnam and China, the market was quiet, since holiday mood is still continuing. The market is expected to be active by second week of this month. In Lampung and Sarawak traders have returned to the market, but activity is still limited and prices prevailing in these sources were reported stable. In Sri Lanka, pepper prices prevailing at growing areas were also stable. In Bangka, an increase of around 4% for white pepper was recorded.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY UNITED KINGDOM:
During the last decade import of pepper into the United Kingdom increased double from 5,831 mt in 2003 to around 11,500 in 2011 and 2012. It is interesting to note that, the increase was recorded in the import of ground pepper, while import of whole pepper was more or less stagnant. In 2003 import of ground pepper was 2,160 mt, which has increased substantially to 7,972 mt in 2012. In 2013, import of the United Kingdom is estimated to cross 12,000 mt as against 11,274 mt in 2012. This is indicated by the increase in total import up to October 2013 as shown in the following table.
