The market was inactive during the week under review as most of the pepper players from major producing countries, like Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, China and Cambodia as well as buyers from major importing countries participated at the 41st Annual Session and Meetings of IPC held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia during 11-13 November 2013. Pepper prices in most of the producing countries were relatively stable. In India the price increased by 5-6%. Marginal decreases (in dollar) in domestic market of Lampung and Kuching, Sarawak were recorded due to weakening of their local currency against US Dollar.
SPECIAL REPORT:
The 41st Annual Session of IPC hosted by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Government of Malaysia and organized jointly by the Malaysian Pepper Board and the IPC Jakarta were participated by more than 250 officials and trade delegates from 23 countries (producing and consuming countries). Papers presented by speakers from the IPC countries as well as spice trade associations are available for downloading by the registered delegates from the IPC website at www.ipcnet.org/session41my Market scenario for 2013 and 2014 were discussed in detail at the Peppertech and Pepperexim meetings. Summary of production, import, export and consumption of pepper by producing countries in 2012 and 2013 are given below.
