Market price of pepper continued to be strong at most origins. In Vietnam trading was more active following increased arrival from current harvest. Price of black pepper traded at domestic market fluctuated between VND 172,000 - 181,000 per Kg. On average, the price increased by 3% from last weekÔÇÖs average. Marginal increase was also recorded in Sri Lanka. In Lampung and Sarawak, the price of black pepper was stable both in local market as well as FOB.

In the case of white pepper, price in Bangka increased further during the week by IDR 5,000 per Kg. Strong internal demand in the last few weeks to meet immediate contract was reported the main reason for the increase. The price has increased significantly from IDR 145,000 per Kg in February to IDR 170,000 this week. Due to very tight stock available at farms, this situation is likely will continue till new picking starts some times in June. In China and Vietnam white pepper prices reported to be increased. In dollar terms however, local price in HCMC was stable due to weakening of Vietnam Dong against US Dollar.

IMPORTOF PEPPER BY CANADA:
Canada imported 5,951 Mt of pepper during 2014, comprising of 3,267 Mt of whole and 2,684 Mt of ground pepper. During the last ten years (2005-2014), annual import of pepper by Canada was around 6,000 Mt, The import has shown a decreasing trend during the last five years; on average it was lower than 6,000 Mt. During 2005 - 2007, Import of pepper into Canada increased to reach 6,743 Mt. Portion of whole pepper imported however decreased, but for ground pepper increased. On the following years import of whole and ground pepper fluctuated more proportionately at narrow range.

Up to 2011 India was the main source of whole pepper for Canada, but since 2012 Vietnam has dominated pepper import of the country. United States remained the main source of ground pepper for Canada.
