The market was quiet during the week under review, in view of celebrating Chinese New Year particularly in Vietnam, China, Sarawak, Lampung and Bangka. Although prices were reported unchanged at those origins, trading was very limited, as traders were not in the market, busy with the celebration. It is expected that market will be changing in March. In India, the market was more active, supported by available new material from current harvest which are now has arrived in the market. Pepper prices at Kochi decreased to INR 585 per Kg from INR 610 in the previous week. In Sri Lanka, the price was relatively stable at the level of LKR 970 per Kg.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM MALAYSIA:
During 2014, Malaysia has shipped 13,429 Mt of pepper (10,788 Mt of black, 2,604 Mt of white and 37 Mt of green pepper), valued at US$ 124 million. The export registered an increase of 11% in volume and 43% in Value when compared to exports of 12,105 Mt (9,879 Mt of black, 2,187 Mt of white and 39 Mt of green pepper) worth US$ 87 million exported in 2013.
