The market remained strong. Pepper prices in the domestic market showed an increasing trend. Local prices in Sarawak were stable at MYR 27 per kg for black and MYR 36.7 for white. In dollar terms however the price decreased due to weakening of Malaysian Ringgit against US dollar during this week. The increase might be due to lot of transaction occurred during the week in anticipation of long holiday at the end of this month. Fob price were relatively stable this week, with a marginal increase was recorded for Lampung black.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
Pepper harvest in Brazil has completed and output of this year harvest is estimated at the level of 35,000 mt. In October 2014, export of pepper from Brazil was in increasing trend after the harvest. During the month a volume of 4,937 mt valued at US$ 47 million was shipped from Brazil, recording an increase of 17% in quantity and 68% in value. During January - October 2014, export of pepper from Brazil was 24,431 mt, valued at USD 205 million. When compared to the export in the same period of last year, a marginal decrease of 1% in volume was recorded, but increased in value by 29%. This was due higher prevailing price during the year. Brazil is targeting to export 31,000 mt in 2014. Hence, in the remaining months of the year, export from Brazil will be about 6,500 mts.
