At Kochi, India, Malabar black decreased by INR 10 per kg from INR 686 at the beginning of the week to INR 676 on Thursday, 5th June. In Sri Lanka, price decrease was also recorded. Local price in Lampung was stable, but in dollar term the price decrease by 2%, due to weakening of Indonesian Rupiah against US dollar. In Bangka, white pepper price increased by IDR 2,000 per kg to IDR 122,000 this week. In Dollar terms however the price was stable. At other sources pepper prices were reported stable
EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM SRI LANKA:
During 2013 export of pepper from Sri Lanka was 21,330 mt valued at USD 127 million, registering a substantial increase of more than double, when compared to export of 10,029 mt in 2012. The export was the highest achieved by Sri Lanka so far. During the last three year, export of pepper from Sri Lanka increased significantly from 5,056 mt in 2011 to 10,029 mt in 2012 and 21,330 mt in 2013. In 2014, export from Sri Lanka is estimated to be lower. During the first three month of 2014, export of pepper from Sri Lanka was only 1,582 mt, recording a significant decrease of 40% when compared to export of 2,623 mt in the same period last year. The lower export performance during the high prevailing price reflected that the stock of pepper in Sri Lanka is very limited.
