Pepper prices remained steady this week. A marginal increase of local prices took place at sources, with the exception in Sri Lanka. In Kochi, fob price also increased. In Vietnam, average price of black pepper was VND 148,500 per kg locally, a marginal increase of 1% from last week-s. Farmer-s attitude which holds back material has been the cause of this situation. There was no selling pressures were reported. In Lampung, a marginal increase of local price was also recorded. Trading was in active due to limited material available in the market. The harvest of Lampung black is expected to begin in July/August. Due to un-favorable weather condition, the output is projected to be not promising, particularly in North Lampung.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During March 2014, Brazil exported 2,531 mt of pepper valued at USD 19 million as against 2,332 mt valued at USD 15 million exported in March 2013, registering an increase of 9% in quantity and 26% in value. During January - March 2014, total export of pepper from Brazil was 9,129 mt worth USD 68.4 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was a significant increase of 30% in quantity and 54% in value.
