The market continued to firm, but trading was very limited in view of May Day celebration. Local price prevail at most producing countries increased further. Significant price increase was recorded in Sri Lanka from LKR 872 per kg last week to LKR 928 per kg this week. Marginal increase was recorded in Vietnam and Sarawak. In Kochi however, local price of Malabar black decreased to INR 66,000 per 100 kg from INR 69,000 per 100 kg at the last week-s close. White pepper prices were reported stable.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM INDONESIA:
During 2013 Indonesia exported 47,908 mt of pepper valued at USD 347 million, comprising 31,347 mt of black and 16,561 mt of white pepper. When compared with exports of 62,608 mt worth USD 423 million in 2012, the export has decreased by 23% in volume and 18% in value. Out of the total export of black pepper, a volume of 29,669 mt (95% of total black) was shipped from Lampung. The traditional source of white pepper from Bangka province shipped 8,785 mt (53% of total white) in 2013. Other important source of white pepper in Indonesia are Kalimantan and Sulawesi The United States, the most important destination, imported around 31% of pepper shipped from Indonesia, followed by Vietnam 24%. Singapore and India also imported significant quantity of pepper from Indonesia.
