Black pepper market has shown a mixed response during the week. At Kochi, India, Malabar black pepper price decreased from INR 676 per kg previous week to INR 661 on 12 June. On an average the price decreased by 3%. In Lampung and Vietnam, local price increased marginally, while in Sarawak and Sri Lanka the prices were reported stable. Stable prices were also recorded for white pepper at all the producing countries. From Brazil it was reported that new harvest in Espirito Santo has begun. However, offers to market are very limited and prices still high at the level of around U$D 8,200 FOB. The price at growers is around BRL 17 per Kg. Due to the Football World Cup in June/July, the market is anticipated of running slow.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During May 2014, Brazil exported 1,011 mt of pepper valued at USD 7.95 million as against 2,659 mt valued at USD 16.87 million exported in May 2013, recording a significant decrease of 62%. Monthly export in 2014 has decreased continuously from 3,492 mt in January to 1,011 mt in May. The continuous decrease of export during the high prevailing price reflected that the stock of pepper in Brazil has exhausted. During January - May 2014 total export of pepper from Brazil was 11,802 mt worth USD 88.83 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was a marginal decrease of 3% in volume, but increase in value by 14%. United States and Germany was the most important destination absorbed almost 80% of Brazilian pepper export during the first five months.
