Pepper price in producing countries has again increased. The increase for black pepper is up to 4% and up to 2% for white pepper. Short supply in Vietnam and Indonesia is the main reason for the continuing price increase.

Some source reported that the next crop of pepper in Vietnam may be better; but official source reported that Vietnamese production in 2014 is estimated to be at the same level as harvested this year. Malabar new crop is also reported to be lower. Under this situation, sellers are very cautious to offer pepper for 2014. Up to the end of the year, pepper price is expected to remain high.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM MALAYSIA:
During January - September 2013, Malaysia have exported around 8,527 mt of pepper, comprising 6,978 mt of black, 1,524 mt of white and 25 mt of green pepper. Compared to exports in the corresponding period of last year, the export has increased by around 14%, but still lower by 15% from export made during the corresponding period in 2011. Export of 1,437 mt made in the month of September 2013 was the highest during the year. Malaysia is targeting to export 15,000 mt of pepper this year. Hence, in the remaining months of the year, export from Malaysia is expected to be better.
