The market was firm and prices at most of the origins have increased further. Black pepper price was more dynamic, while for white pepper was relatively stable. Vietnam recorded the highest in the increase of black pepper price in local market by 3% (VND 3,000 per kg) from VND 126,500 per kg during last week to VND 129,500 this week; while for white pepper the increase was only VND 1,000 per kg. Farm gate price in Sri Lanka has also increased by LKR 19 per kg to LKR 709 during this week. In Lampung, the local price increased from IDR 67,500 to IDR 69,000 this week; while for Muntok white pepper in Bangka was reportedly stable. Price stability was recorded in Brazil and Sarawak. In Kochi, local price increased by 1% (INR 8 per kg) from INR 402 per kg to INR 410. A significant increase was recorded in fob price of Malabar black by 4% this week.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM MALAYSIA: In July 2013 export of pepper from Malaysia is estimated at around 958 mt (825 mt of black and 133 mt of white pepper), which is slightly higher from the export in July 2012. During January - July 2013 a volume of around 6,325 mt, comprising of 5,189 mt of black, and 1,123 mt of white and 13 mt of green pepper have been shipped from Malaysia. Compared to the exports in the corresponding period of last year, the export has experienced an increase by 14%. But this increase in 2013 is still lower by 15% compared to the corresponding period of the previous two years.
