The market at origin was quiet and buyers continued to be reluctant, expecting price to come down. However, farmers are not interested to release material at reduced price. Consequently, trading was limited during the week. Prices in the domestic market were remaining high and even higher in India and Sri Lanka. In India the supply is limited. With higher internal usage, the price increased locally. In Kochi, price of Malabar black increased to INR 342 per kg from INR 337 prevailed in the last week. In Sri Lanka, the price increased significantly from LKR 662 to LKR 709 per kg during this week. Due to weakening of local currencies in India, Sarawak and Brazil, local price in dollar in these countries decreased marginally. In Lampung, the market continued to be quiet, due to very tight stock available in the market. New material from the anticipated lower crop this year is expected to arrive in the market by July/August. Sellers have been reluctant of making forward sales.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During April 2013, Brazil exported 2,537 mt of pepper valued at USD 16.3 million as against 1,433 mt valued at USD 10.6 million exported in April 2012, During January - April 2013, total export of pepper from Brazil was 9,571 mt worth USD 60.8 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was an increase of 25% in quantity and 11% in value. United States is the most important and single largest market absorbed about 44% of Brazilian pepper export, followed by Spain and Germany importing 12% and 10% respectively.
