BLACK PEPPER: The market continued to be more active and price firmed up during the week, although pepper harvest in India has begun and harvest is expected very soon in Vietnam as well nearly to come in Vietnam as well. The price at most origin has increased up to 3%. This situation reflected that demand has increased, while stock at producing countries and inventory at consuming countries were limited.
WHITE PEPPER: White pepper price also showed an increasing trend. In Bangka and Sarawak, the price increase by 1%. The increase was also reported in European market.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM INDONESIA
During 2012 export of pepper from Indonesia is estimated to reach 60,000 mt, a significant increase of around 64% from 36,500 achieved in 2011. Although stock brought forward from 2011 was very limited, a substantial increase in production during 2012 has supported the possible increase in export. The increase was mainly due to significant increased supply from Lampung. During 2012 export of pepper from Lampung was around 43,225 mt as against 21,250 mt exported in 2011, recording more than double of 2011 exports. Together with exports from other ports (including white pepper), total export of pepper from Indonesia is estimated to be around 60,000 mt. For the year 2013, production of pepper in Indonesia is estimated to be lower. Heavy wet weather coupled with the presence of pest and diseases as well as aged plants are the main reason for the anticipated decrease. Rejuvenation of pepper gardens taken place in some areas in the previous years are expected to start harvest during the next season.
