MARKET REPORT
Market this week showed a rather positive response with only Viet Nam farm gate price was reported with a decrease. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported with an increase of 3% when compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 5,221 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 6% and 4% respectively when compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 3,163 per Mt for black pepper and USD 6,256 per Mt for white pepper. The increase of Indonesian price could be contributed to the high demand despite the limited to none stock in farmer level. Malaysia black and white pepper were also reported with an increase of 6% and 4% respectively as compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 2,845 per Mt for black pepper and USD 4,259 per Mt for white pepper. Viet Nam farm gate price of black and white pepper were reported with 1% and 2% deficit respectively as compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 2,991 per Mt for black pepper and USD 4,628 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Sri Lanka black pepper was reported with an increase of 4% as compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 3,418 per Mt. China white pepper was reported stable and unchanged.
International market was reported with a rather positive outlook as India black pepper was reported with the same increase of 3% when compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 5,492 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper were reported with an increase of 5% and 4% respectively when compared to the previous week, averaging at USD 3,772 per Mt for black pepper and USD 7,204 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Malaysia black and white pepper, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper as well as China white pepper were all reported stable and unchanged.
EXPORT OF PEPPER BY CZECH REPUBLIC
Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. Czech Republic actively imports pepper from various pepper producing countries for domestic consumption or for re-export.
In 2019, Czech Republic was reported to have imported a total of 1,434,000 Kg which 70% of it comprised of whole pepper. In the following year, Czech Republic's import of pepper increased by 8%, totaling at 1,548,000 Kg. As of January 2021, Czech Republic was reported to have imported a total of 137,283 Kg of which 42,459 Kg went for re-export purposes. The ratio of Czech Republic's import and export during 2019 - January 2021 were 3:1, 2:1 and 3:1 respectively. The top five countries of origins for Czech Republic's pepper as of January 2021 were reported to be Germany with 45,593 Kg (contributed to 33% of the total pepper imported by Czech Republic as of January 2021), Viet Nam with 25,454 Kg (19%), Poland with 19,126 Kg (14%), Netherlands with 15,270 Kg (11%) and Romania with 12,378 Kg (9%).
In 2019, Czech Republic was reported to have exported a total of 489,765 Kg of pepper which 64% or 313,190 Kg of it comprised of whole pepper and 36% or 176,575 Kg of it ground pepper. Czech Republic on average exported a total of 40,814 Kg per month in 2019 which peaked in August with 76,979 Kg. The total revenue of Czech Republic's export of pepper in 2019 was reported to be as high as USD 2.6 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper exported by Czech Republic at USD 5.07 per Kg for whole pepper and USD 6.29 per Kg for ground pepper.
Year 2020 saw an increase in term of quantity of pepper exported by Czech Republic. Czech Republic was reported to have exported a total of 687,627 Kg which 73% or 499,895 Kg of it comprised of whole pepper and 27% or 187,732 Kg of it ground pepper, recording an increase of 40% when compared to 2019. The average export of pepper by Czech Republic in 2020 was reported to be 57,302 Kg per month which peaked in July with 107,403 Kg. In accordance with increasing in term of quantity, Czech Republic's revenue from pepper export was reported with an increase of 42% as compared to the previous year to a total of USD 3.8 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper exported by Czech Republic at USD 4.98 per Kg for whole pepper and USD 7.08 per Kg for ground pepper or a decrease of 2% for whole pepper and an increase of 13% for ground pepper as compared to 2019.
As of January 2021, Czech Republic was reported to have exported pepper totaling 42,459 Kg which 51% or 21,541 Kg of it comprised of whole pepper and 49% or 20,918 Kg of it ground pepper. Thus, recording an increase of 15% when compared to the same period in 2020. As of January 2021, the total revenue of pepper export by Czech Republic was reported to have reached USD 288,000, recording a decrease of 17% as compared to the same period in 2020. The average price of the total pepper exported by Czech Republic as of January 2021 was reported to be USD 5.66 per Kg for whole pepper and USD 5.07 per Kg for ground pepper.
Pepper from Czech Republic is traded worldwide with most of them being European countries. As of January 2021, Czech Republic's top 5 country destinations for its pepper were reported to be Germany with 28,526 Kg (an increase of 16,257 Kg as compared to the same period in 2020), Norway with 4,001 Kg (a decrease of 41%), Croatia with 2,970 Kg (a decrease of 47%), Poland with 2,441 Kg (an increase of 1,238 Kg) and France with 1,928 Kg (2020 n.a). The decrease of Czech Republic's pepper export to Norway was the result of Norway shifted to import pepper from origin country such as Viet Nam (an increase of 7,694 Kg as compared to the same period in 2020).
