Pepper prices at most origins have drifted lower. Harvesting season in Indonesia started this month has most likely influenced market direction. In Lampung, the market remained calm, but prices decreased with limited activity. In Bangka however the price remained stable as last week. In Sarawak, decreased prices in local market were reported both for black as well as white Pepper. Marginally price has decreased for black Pepper in Kochi, India and white pepper in China, which was recorded during the week. From Vietnam it is reported that the prices remained unchanged for last few weeks. In Sri Lanka, marginal increase in Pepper price was recorded during the week.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM MALAYSIA:
It was reported that production and export of Pepper from Malaysia is estimated to slightly increase this year. However, up to May (January- May 2016) total export of Pepper from Malaysia was only 3,530 Mt (2945 Mt black pepper and 585 Mt of white pepper) which was more or less same as last yearÔÇÖs corresponding period exports. It is interesting to note that export of black Pepper increased, while for white Pepper it had decreased. During the first five months of monthly export quantity from Malaysia was relatively stable at the level of 700 Mt. Following new material from this year harvest of Pepper has already arrived in the market. Export for the following months are expected to be better, to achieve its target of higher export this year.
