During the closing week of January, developments in the global pepper market reflected varied price directions among key producing countries, shaped by local market fundamentals and exchange rate movements. |
| India saw a continued softening of pepper prices in both domestic and international markets, marking a second consecutive week of decline. The adjustment coincided with a depreciation of around 1 percent in the Indian Rupee, which averaged INR 91.72 per USD over the reporting period. | |
| Indonesia recorded firmer price levels across domestic and export segments on a week-on-week basis. Price sentiment was supported in part by a nearly 1 percent appreciation of the Indonesian Rupiah, which averaged IDR 16,777 per USD during the same timeframe. | |
| Malaysia registered an improvement in domestic black pepper prices toward the end of January. Other pepper categories showed limited movement and remained broadly steady. | |
| Sri Lanka experienced easing domestic pepper prices as January drew to a close, indicating softer market conditions toward the month-end. | |
| Viet Nam reported higher domestic pepper prices during the week. International pepper prices remained unchanged for the second consecutive week. | |
| Brazil observed strengthening black pepper prices over the course of the week. Price levels for black pepper in Cambodia and white pepper in China showed no significant variation. | |
| From a trade standpoint, France's cumulative pepper imports amounted to 11,452 metric tonnes during the January–November 2025 period. Viet Nam maintained its position as the leading supplier with 5,294 metric tonnes, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, Germany, and Belgium as notable secondary sources. | |
