Pepper price is experiencing a declining trend in the first half of January 2014. The harvesting of pepper in Vietnam which has started recently seems to be one of the reasons for the declining trend in the first half of January in anticipating of the arrival of the pepper from the growing areas in Vietnam. Early arrivals from current harvest are mostly light. Heavy arrival of the pepper is expected to enter the market in the mid of February after the Lunar New Year. Although demand is available, market may tend to slow down in the coming week in view of Lunar new year holidays by end of this month.
EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL
In the last 41st Session of IPC held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on 11 - 13 November 2013, it was reported that production of pepper in Brazil for the year 2013 is estimated at the level of 33,000 mt, a slight increase of 1,000 mt from 32,000 mt in 2012. In line with the slight increase in pepper production in 2013, export of pepper from Brazil in 2013 has also reported to increase from 29,081 mt in 2012 to 30,571 mt in 2013. In terms of value, Brazil has realized export earnings from pepper of around USD 200 million as against USD 192 million in 2012. During 2013, Brazil also exported 14 mt of ground pepper as against 28 mt in 2012. The United States and Germany were the main destination for Brazilian pepper, absorbing 38% and 22% respectively of Brazil-s pepper export
