The market remained steady with limited activity. Although pepper harvest in Vietnam is completed, buyers are still having difficulty in getting the material, since producers are expecting higher price. On the other side, buyers continued to be cautious, watching on the development of pepper harvest in Indonesia which is expected to begin soon. From Lampung it was reported that production of black pepper would be significantly lower from last year. In Bangka, a marginal increase of white pepper production is anticipated. Kalimantan and Sulawesi also produce mostly white pepper for local consumption. A small portion of Kalimantan pepper is exported through Jakarta. During current crop season, East Kalimantan is anticipated to harvest two or three times. This is possible, because of climate change and rains occurred almost every day this year. This has resulted in the flowering and fruit setting are happening parallelly. Initial harvest in East Kalimantan is expected to begin in July and the second harvest to come in October/November.
