The market of black pepper at sources showed a mixed response during the week. In Vietnam, local price of black pepper increased from VND 172,000 per Kg last week to VND 175,500 this week. In India local price also increased from INR 654 per Kg at the beginning of the week to INR 656 on Wednesday, 9 December 2015. On an average however, the price of Malabar black was a slight lower from last weekÔÇÖs average. In Indonesia and Sri Lanka, a marginal decrease was recorded; while in Sarawak the prices were reported stable.

IMPORT OF PEPPER BY CANADA:
During 2014 Canada imported 5,951 Mt of pepper, comprising of 3,267 Mt of whole and 2,684 Mt of ground pepper, as against 6,119 Mt in 2013. During the last ten years (2005-2014), annual import of pepper by Canada was around 6,000 Mt. Canada is the second largest market for pepper in North America after the United States. During January - September 2015 Canada has imported 4,669 Mt of pepper (2,576 Mt. of whole and 2,093 Mt of ground pepper) showing a marginal increase of 2% as against 4,573 Mt (2,504 Mt of whole and 2,070 Mt of ground pepper) imported in the same period last year. India used to be the main source of whole pepper to Canada up to 2011, but since 2012 Vietnam has taken over the post of India as the largest supplier of whole pepper. In the first nine months of 2015, Vietnam supplied over 50% of whole pepper to Canada While for ground pepper, United States remained the main source of the products to Canada. Over 70% of Canada import of ground pepper was sourced from the United States.
