EXPORT AND IMPORT OF PEPPER BY CHINA:
China is one of the important Pepper producing countries, particularly in the southernmost province of Hainan, with annual production of around 30,000 Mt, mostly White Pepper. Though China produces Pepper but also imports significant quantity of it from Vietnam to meet its growing internal demand. Import of Pepper into China has increased significantly from year on year basis; while export has decreased significantly from 10,000 Mt in 2006 to only 1,000 Mt in the year 2014. In the year 2015, given the situation of good harvest and prevailing higher unit price, export of Pepper from China is estimated to increase. During January - July 2015, China has exported 1,124 Mt of Pepper against 497 Mt in the same period last year. Marginal decrease in import is anticipated this year as indicated by the import performance achieved at 2,460 Mt during January-July 2015, from 2,654 Mt in Jan-July 2014.
