Local market of pepper in Lampung and Bangka has increased, following new material from initial harvest which has arrived in the market. Local price of black Pepper in Lampung was IDR 112,500 per Kg this week and IDR 172,000 per Kg for white Pepper in Bangka, showing a marginal decrease of 1% from the average price last week. In Vietnam the price of black and white Pepper remained stable. In Sarawak, except local price of black Pepper, the prices were also reported stable.

In India, price has increased marginally from INR 626 per Kg at the beginning of the week to INR 633 at the weekÔÇÖs close. On an average the increase in price was however in-significant. A marginal increase was also recorded in Sri Lanka from LKR 1,127 per Kg last week to LKR 1,131 per Kg this week.

EXPORT AND IMPORT PEPPER BY CHINA:
China is one of the important Pepper producing countries, in the southern most province of Hainan. It is the major Pepper growing areas in China, with annual production of around 30,000 Mt, mostly White Pepper. Although , China produces Pepper, but also imports significant quantity of it mainly from Vietnam, to meet internal demand. Import of Pepper into China increases from year on year basis; while export decreased significantly from 10,000 Mt in 2006 to only 1,000 Mt in 2014. In 2015, given the situation of good harvest and prevailing higher unit price, export of pepper from China is estimated to increase. During January - April 2015, China has exported 816 Mt of Pepper against 210 Mt in the same period last year. Marginal decrease in import is anticipated this year as indicated by the import performance achieved at 1,266 Mt during January - April 2015, from 1,315 Mt in Jan-April 2014.
