The market at the most producing countries continued to firm and price increased further. This was due to strong overseas demand, while the material at the source has limited. After harvesting of pepper in Vietnam, Malaysia and completing Indonesian harvest, market is expecting sufficient material from Brazil which is now in harvesting season. However, as per information received from some source, output of Brazilian crop this year is expected to be normal. Hence, the market will likely continue to be short of material until the year end.
In India, Vietnam and Sri Lanka black pepper price in local market increased between 3 - 7 % during this week.
EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM VIETNAM:
In July 2013, Vietnam exported 11,225 mt valued at USD 74.3 million as against 6,943 mt worth USD 52.1 million in July 2012. During January - July 2012, export of pepper from Vietnam was 93,670 mt valued at USD 614.5 million, as against 76,156 mt worth USD 523.9 million in the corresponding period of last year. The export has increased by 23% in quantity and 17% in value. The United States of America was the main market for Vietnamese pepper absorbing 21% which is an increased from 14% in 2012, followed by Germany (9%), Singapore and United Arab Emirates (7% respwectively). Vietnam also imported pepper mainly from Indonesia for processing and re-export.
