MARKET REPORT
Market this week showed stabe outlook with only India and Sri Lanka reported an increase. In local market, Malabar black pepper was traded with an increase by 3% as compared to the previous week with an average of USD 4,438 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper was reported stable with an average of USD 1,635 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,305 per Mt for white pepper. Malaysian black and white pepper was also reported stable with an average of USD 1,968 per Mt and USD 3,475 per Mt respectively. Furthermore, Viet Nam black and white pepper was reported stable and unchanged. Sri Lanka black pepper showed a strong outlook this week with an increase by 6% as compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 2,889 per Mt. Whilst, China white pepper was reported stable with an average of USD 4,560 per Mt.
In international market, the trend showed a stable outlook with only India recorded an increase. FOB price of India black pepper was reported with the same 3% increase as compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,717 per Mt. Indonesia black and white pepper was reported steady with an average of USD 2,034 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,916 per Mt for white pepper. Malaysia black and white pepper continued to be traded stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were also reported stable and unchanged. China reported a stable international trade for its white pepper with an average of USD 4,760 per Mt.
IMPORT OF PEPPER BY CZECH REPUBLIC
Czech Republicis a country in Central Europe bordered by Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. Czech Republic actively imports pepper from various pepper producing countries for domestic consumption or for re-export.
In 2017, Czech Republic was reported to have imported a total 1,288 Mt of pepper which 63% or 811 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper while 37% or 477 Mt of it was ground pepper. The average import by Czech Republic in 2017 was reported to be 107 Mt per month with the highest quantity recorded in April with 179 Mt. The total expenditure of pepper imported by Czech Republic was reported to be as high as USD 15.2 Million, recording an average price of thetotal pepper imported by Czech Republic at USD 12,049 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 11,463 Per Mt for ground pepper.
Year 2018 saw a stable and relatively unchanged trend in term of quantity of pepper imported by Czech Republic. Czech Republic was reported to have recorded a total of 1,294 Mt which comprised of 69% or 887 Mt of whole pepper and 31% or 407 Mt of ground pepper. On average Czech Republic was reported to have imported 108 Mt per month which peaked in June with 168 Mt. Furthermore,Czech Republic's expenditure from pepper import was reported to have declined by 40% to a total of USD 9.1Million, recording an average price of the total pepper imported by Czech Republic at USD 6,822 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 7,502 per Mt for ground pepper or a decrease by 43% and 35% respectively as compared with 2017.
Pepper import by Czech Republic as of July 2019 was reported with an increase of 6% as compared with the same period in 2018, totalling at 765 Mt which comprised of 537 Mt of whole pepper and 228 Mt of ground pepper. The total expenditure of pepper import by Czech Republic as of July 2019 was reported with a decrease by 18% as compared to the same period in the previous year, totalling at USD 4.4 Million.
The top five countries of origins of Czech Republic's pepper both for whole and ground as of July2019 were reported to be Germany with 322 Mt (an increase of 32% as compared with the same period in 2018), the Netherlands with 131 Mt (an increase of 3%),Poland with 107 Mt (a decrease of 58%),Austria with 52 Mt (an increase of 11%) and Slovakia with 49 Mt (a decrease of 2%). The significant decrease of Czech Republic import from Poland could be contributed that Czech Republic started to shift import to Germany (an increase by 102 Mt as compared to the same period in 2018) which is the re-export hub to European countries
