Entering 2018 the market was inactive since holiday mood still continue. Local prices in some source however were reported to have increased. It is expected that the year 2018 will be a turning point for the pepper market to a better direction.
Trade source in Viet Nam reported that this week FOB price of Vietnamese black was US$ 3,419 and US$ 3,352 and US$ 3,255 per Mt for grades ASTA 570, 550 and 500 g/l respectively. FOB price of Vietnamese white pepper was US$ 5,193 per Mt.
During 2006 and 2017 the price has experienced a continuous decrease after recording a highest level achieved in 2015. In July 2015 pepper prices in New York recorded the highest at the level of US$ 11.33 per Kg for black and US$ 16.50 per Kg for white pepper. During period of 2016-2017, then the price decreased sharply by more than 55% to the level of US$ 4.78 and US$ 7.50 per Kg respectively in December 2017 as shown in the chart below.
