Pepper prices at most producing countries were reported to remain stable, with the exception in Sri Lanka, which has increased by 5% at the local market. Marginal increase or decrease in dollar price occurred in domestic market was mainly due to development of local currencies against US dollar. Trading activities however were reported to be limited. While buyers wanted to have lower price, producers were not interested to release their limited available material at lower levels.
From Brazil it was reported that market was very quiet. Offer of pepper was reported to be very limited. Vitoria Pepper B1 asked R$ 15,50 / kg (farmgate) and in Belem was R$ 17.80 / kg (farmgate). Export prices for ASTA / B1 was around USD 7,500. Some asked even USD 7,700 for April May shipment. Apparently not much stock left in Belem from the last crop. Next crop in Brazil will be from Espirito Santo which is estimated in around 8.000 ton for June/July.
