The market continued to be quiet since the market pressure still exists in Vietnam. Prices in most of the producing countries decreased further. However, farmers in Vietnam continue to hold stock and not interested to release their material at lower price. Consequently the market continued to be tight. In India price for Malabar ungarbled black stood at INR 335 per kg during the week, decreased from average price of INR 340 per kg last week. In Lampung local price remains stable at IDR 53,000 per kg, with very limited activities. Nominal quantity of stock is available and expected to be released only at the higher prices. Production of black pepper in Lampung is estimated to be significantly lower this year. Although rejuvenation has taken place in some areas, but the output may be expected by 2014/15. In Bangka, white pepper prices decreased marginally this week. Pepper harvest in Bangka is expected to begin by June and pepper harvest in Kalimantan is expected to begin in early July. In Sarawak, prices also decreased, but in Sri Lanka an increase of 2% was recorded.
