MARKET REPORT
Market this week was reported with a positive outlook. In local market, Malabar black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,467 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported stable with a marginal decrease averaging at USD 2,136 per Mt. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported with an increase of 2% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 3,919 per Mt. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported stable with a marginal increase and were traded at an average of USD 2,159 per Mt for black pepper and USD 3,630 per Mt for white pepper. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper was reported stable with a marginal increase at an average of USD 2,373 per Mt. Whilst, Viet Nam white pepper was reported with an increase of 3% as opposed to the previous week to an average of USD 3,339 per Mt. Sri Lanka black pepper was reported with an increase of 1% when compared to the previous week and was traded at an average of USD 3,011 per Mt. China white pepper was reported stable and unchanged.
International market showed a rather stable outlook as India black pepper was reported with the same increase of 1% when compared to the previous week at an average of USD 4,738 per Mt. Indonesia black pepper was reported stable with a marginal decrease averaging at USD 2,606 per Mt. Whilst, Indonesia white pepper was reported with an increase of 2% when compared to the previous week averaging at USD 4,601 per Mt. Malaysia black and white pepper were reported stable and unchanged. Furthermore, Viet Nam black pepper 500 g/l, 550 g/l and Viet Nam white pepper were also reported stable and unchanged. China white pepper was reported stable and unchanged internationally.
IMPORT OF PEPPER BY CZECH REPUBLIC
Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. Czech Republic actively imports pepper from various pepper producing countries for domestic consumption or for re-export.
In 2018, Czech Republic was reported to have imported a total 1,295 Mt of pepper which 68% or 887 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper while 32% or 408 Mt of it was ground pepper. The average import of pepper by Czech Republic in 2018 was reported to be 108 Mt per month with the highest quantity recorded in June with 168 Mt. The total expenditure of pepper import by Czech Republic in 2018 was reported to be as high as USD 9.1 Million, recording an average price of the total pepper imported by Czech Republic at USD 6,822 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 7,493 Per Mt for ground pepper.
Year 2019 saw a decreasing trend in term of quantity of pepper imported by Czech Republic. Czech Republic was reported to have imported a total of 1,262 Mt which 69% or 868 Mt of it comprised of whole pepper and 31% or 394 Mt of it was ground pepper. Thus, recording a decrease of 3% when compared to the same period in 2018. The average pepper imported by Czech Republic in 2019 was reported at 105 Mt per month which peaked in May with 164 Mt. In line with decreasing in term of quantity, Czech Republic's expenditure of pepper import was reported with a decrease of 21% to a total of USD 7.2 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper imported by Czech Republic at USD 5,528 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 6,178 per Mt for ground pepper or a decrease by 19% and 18% respectively as compared to 2018.
As of September 2020, Pepper import by Czech Republic was reported with an increase of 19% as compared to the same period in 2019, totaling at 1,153 Mt which comprised of 77% or 882 Mt of whole pepper and 23% or 271 Mt of ground pepper. The total expenditure of pepper import by Czech Republic as of September 2020 was reported with an increase of 5% when compared to the same period in the previous year, totaling at USD 5.8 Million. Thus, recording an average price of the total pepper imported by Czech Republic at USD 4,785 per Mt for whole pepper and USD 5,897 per Mt for ground pepper.
The top five countries of origins of Czech Republic's pepper as of September 2020 were reported to be Germany with 469 Mt (an increase of 29% Mt as compared to the same period in 2019), Poland with 214 Mt (an increase of 35%), Netherlands with 93 Mt (a decrease of 47%), Austria with 77 Mt (an increase of 22%) and Slovakia with 72 Mt (an increase of 14%). The decreased of Czech Republic's import from Netherlands could be contributed to Czech Republic preference of importing from Germany (an increase by 104 Mt as compared to the same period in 2019).
