Pepper price in producing countries increased further up to 4% for black, with the exception of price recorded in India. In Lampung, local price increased by IDR 3,500 to IDR 82,500 per kg this week. Three percent increase was recorded in Vietnam for black pepper from VND 154,500 to VND 157,500 per kg this week; while in Kochi, spot price of ungarbled black decreased from INR 494 per kg at the beginning of the week to INR 487 on Thursday.

In the case of white pepper, the price was relatively stable in Sarawak and Vietnam. Significant increase was reported in Hainan by 9%.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM LAMPUNG, INDONESIA:
During 2012, Indonesia exported 62,608 mt of pepper valued at USD 423.5 million, comprising of 49,500 mt of black and 13,108 mt of white pepper. Out of this a volume of 43,225 mt of black pepper was shipped from Lampung. Due to unfavorable weather condition this year, production of black pepper in Lampung decreased significantly. The significant fall in output this year was reflected by the total pepper exported from Lampung this year. During January - October 2013, total export of black pepper from Lampung was 21,408 mt, as against 33,923 mt in the corresponding period last year, showing a decrease of 37%. In October, export from Lampung decreased significantly (less than 50% of last year).
