BLACK PEPPER: The market was quiet with limited activities. In India, traders were celebrating Divawali festival. Pepper prices in Kochi decreased by 3%. Marginal decrease was also recorded in Sri Lanka. Pepper prices in Lampung, Sarawak and Vietnam were reported stable.
WHITE PEPPER: White pepper prices were also reported stable at most origins
EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM SRI ALANKA:
Sri Lanka, one of the IPC member countries, produces around 14,500 mt and exports around 7,800 mt annually (average 2007-2011). In the recent 40th Session of IPC held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 30th October - 2nd November 2012, representative from Sri Lanka reported that production of pepper during 20011 in Sri Lanka was 10,850 mt. Out of which 5,082 mt was exported, mainly to India. In 2012, Sri Lanka is estimated to produce around 17,370 mt and it is expected that more than 10,000 mt is for export. Up to October 2012 export of pepper from Sri Lanka has reached 9,120 mt as against 4,804 mt in the same period last year.
The recently concluded IPC Annual meetings held in Colombo from 30th Oct - 2nd Nov 2012 have been attended by more than 380 delegates of 24 countries.
