BLACK PEPPER: In India, the market remained steady with limited activity. Prices at Kochi were relatively stable during the week. In Sarawak, also stable prices were recorded. In Vietnam, material from recent crop has arrived in the market and hence selling pressure has increased; however, producers are not interested to sell pepper at reduced price. On the other side, buyers are holding their request, expecting price to come down. Under this situation the market is not brisk. In Lampung and Sri Lanka, a marginal price decrease was recorded. Since stock at these countries is limited, the decrease is likely to be for a temporary

WHITE PEPPER: In Bangka, white pepper prices decreased by 2%. In Sarawak and China the price of white pepper remained stable as last week.

EXPORT OF PEPPER FROM BRAZIL:
During February 2013, Brazil exported 2,294 mt of pepper valued at USD 14.3 million as against 1,679 mt valued at USD 11.8 million exported in February 2013. During January - February 2013, total export of pepper from Brazil was 1,702 mt worth USD 29.4 million. When compared to exports in the same period last year, there was an increase of 11% in quantity, but slightly decrease in value by 1%. During the first two month the United States and Germany continued to be the most important destinations absorbing about 41% and 17% of pepper respectively from Brazil.
