Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of India Issued Regulation on the Banning of Tricyclazole and Buprofezin.
Through the Inter Ministerial Committee meeting held on 8th January 2019 and 10th October 2019 which discussed and reviewed the use of Tricyclazole and Buprofezin, the committee decided to revisit the usefulness, efficacy and safety of the Tricyclazole and Buprofezin in a holistic manner while keeping in view the maximum residue limit fixed by European Union in respect of said insecticides.
Upon considering the views expressed by the aforementioned Inter Ministerial Committee, the India Central Government was of the opinion that the use of Tricyclazole and Buprofezin involves health hazards to human beings, animals and the environment.
The India Central Government on 31 January 2020 released a draft order in regards to the use of Tricyclazole and Buprofezin as recited on Gazette of India edition 03 February 2020. The draft order was accompanied with notice that the aforementioned draft order shall be taken into consideration after expiry of a period of thirty days from the date on which the copies of the Gazette of India containing the Order are made available to the public. The following is the draft order publishes by the Indian Central Government.
1. Short title and commencement.-
- This Order may be called the Insecticides (Prohibition) Order, 2020
- It shall come into force on the date of its final publication in the Official Gazette.
2. Prohibition of insecticides.-
- No person shall import, formulate, manufacture, sell, transport, distribute, stock and use Tricyclazole and Buprofezin.
- The certificate of registration granted for Tricyclazole and Buprofezin under section 9 of the said Act shall be deemed to be cancelled.
- All registrants having certificate of registration granted for Tricyclazole and Buprofezin shall submit the same to the Registration Committee.
- If any person, who holds the certificate of registration fails to return the certificate to the Registration Committee, referred to in sub-paragraph (3), within a period of three months, action shall be taken under the provisions contained in the said Act.
- Every State Government shall take such steps under the said Act and the rules made thereunder, as it considers necessary, for the implementation of this Order in the State.
In line with the publishing of draft order concerning Tricyclazole and Buprofezin from the India Central Government, the European Commission in regulation (EU) 2016/1826 has previously disapproved the renewal (Banning) of active substance tricyclazole. Whilst, Buprofezin is currently still approved in European Commission with the Maximum Residue Level (MRLs) at 0.05 mg/kg for pepper.
